Every SaaS dies a little in its reports
Ask ten SaaS customers where their tools fail and nine will point at the same place: the report you actually needed, and the two systems that never learned to talk.
Companies now run over 100 applications. Vendors ship dashboards for the demo and call it analytics. The real work — reconciling, exporting, explaining a number to a board — still happens in a spreadsheet at 11pm.
Why this is a wedge, not a feature
- Reporting is the most repeated complaint across categories, so demand is pre-validated.
- An integration you own compounds: every new customer teaches the mapping.
- The buyer is not browsing a marketplace. They are searching "how to get X out of Y" at midnight. That search is your funnel.
The narrow version
Do not build "analytics". Build the one report for the one person: the freight price sheet, the clinic's prior-auth summary, the church's giving statement. Niche website builders and vertical reporting tools sit in the same low-competition corner: high willingness to pay, zero glamour, real churn-resistant revenue.
